It happened here twentysix minutes ago, and this is how it's celebrated in some European countries:

Woman, you can't be serious: you really mean days are getting shorter from now on??? :'( . I thought we still had a week to go...

Speaking of Summer sorlstice, its voluptuous essence is captured to perfection in Andreï Rublev and Bergman's Smiles of A Midsummer Night..

And of course, it should be remembered that it's French Canadian's National Holiday   :D

uffeviking

In that case, Lieber André, A Happy French Canadian Summer Solstice also!  :-*

Lilas Pastia

 :-* :-* :D
I'll eat a printen or two thinking of you!

The actual date is June 24 (St-John The Baptist's name day). It' usually recognized as the real "midsummer".

I arranged some standing stones in my back garden, and last night I danced around them with a bottle of wine and sacrificed a couple of cows with a ceremonial sword whilst listening to Gorecki's "Amen" at full volume.
It was most edifying.

uffeviking

Aha! It was your Gorecki I heard while dancing naked around a bonfire in my rose garden, listening to Debussy's Arabesque;D

Blue and white are the Greek national colours, as well; one quick glance at the picture made me think for a moment this was a shot from a March 25 parade (our national holiday). The flags in the picture - minus the fleurs de lis - are identical to a very common variant of the Greek flag.

Lilas Pastia

Yes, the colours are almost identical  :D.

I'll do what I do every year.

Ah, the immortal Frank Frazetta! I know it from the cover of 'Conan the Avenger' (just checked).

But - how IS the lady doing?

Oh, I'm sure she's just fine. That lunkhead in a helmet probably saved her. I can't perform a proper Summer Solstice event with him around.

Looks like me coming to visit Lis--and just in the nick of time!

The plot thickens...

I am that crocodile on the steps, looking on.

My celebration was much more indicative of my entire summer....I repaired yet another sprinkler head.
