Yes, it is curiously similar, now you mention it. I suspect there's a deep one-to-one symbolism linking the two, so that each event in a typical cow-punching episode has its precisely corresponding technique on the ice, and one might even say that the true meaning of cowpunching is only revealed when expressed on skates: 'I lassoo, therefore I spin.'

Of course, I could be wrong about this.

I'm relieved you should say that, because since making my last post I've written and published a substantial monograph on the subject, amusingly titled 'Frosty the Cowman: refrigerated thoughts towards a symbolic analysis of Rodeo Ice-ology'. I've given you full credit for the initial discovery, Dave, prominently displayed in the middle of an extensive footnote at the bottom of page 1,278, about the history of skate-punching in Inner Outer Mongolia, but unfortunately it's in very small print and is quite hard to read.
