Kind of related to the recent German talk: can any German member of the forum confirm a pointless observation I have made? (Which in its total lack of interest to other people, obviously becomes vitally interesting to myself ::))

Basically, text on the spines of books I have generally run from top to bottom, but two ones I have that were translated into English but still printed by a German publisher have spines going from bottom to top - is this standard practice in Germany or are they just weird (I have a couple of English ones in this format too, but they are uncommon)?

Interesting, Lethe! Having a look at my/wifes 1000s of books, text on the spines of german books goes either from bottom to top or horizontal, on the bolder ones.
I can see only very very few books with top->bottom; they are computer/computer science, technical/related, but also from german publishers. But also on the vast majority of technical books text is bootom->top.

Thanks! It may be small and petty, but this is something I shall remember (and annoy people by telling them about it when I run out of things to talk about) forever 0:)

It is a question you can ask new acquaintances to test whether or not they will be your kind of people. It will be an elect club of great white souls.

You should ask the Wikipedian who uploaded it. :)

If it's on Wikipedia, it has to be true.  >:D
