I did too, but the students that I teach are expected to study at least 30 hours a week. :o
So you teach high school? For some reason I was thinking you teach at a college, must have gotten that confused...

That is way too much... they should be able to enjoy their life before they have to work and go to college and give up most of their hobbies and friends because they have no time, like me and pretty much everyone else who attends college.

I teach high school students at a boarding school that is run like a college.  I teach college level classes, with college like schedule and me and my fellow faculty are over 80% PhDs.  We're focused on STEM and were rated in the top ten schools in the country year after year until we were disqualified because the average act, sat, and gpa here were well above the nationwide norm. 8)

Nice. Beats head crabs any day, although I bet some students can be worse.  :P

BTW, Greg, I think you do have the values reversed.  There's nothing wrong with college students working hard;  education is what it is for.  Put the work in now, because (if one has a talent for friendship) you can always make friends, and there will always be time for hobbies later.  (My greatest regret about college is that I didn't spend enough time playing air hockey . . . .)

Yeah, I guess so. Screw my friends, though, because I am trying to get a number. Gotta protect my 3.8 GPA. Numbers come before people.
I will, of course, get back to composing as well...

Seriously, though, I've realized that the movie Click may offer an important perspective. You are only really enjoying your life if you wouldn't fast forward it. I would definitely fast forward about 2 1/2 years or however long it takes, and then at that point wouldn't really need to much. Maybe only when standing in line or driving.  :P

Don't have the link because im on my phone, but last night saw a golf course in Wisconsin was offering a special promo price of $9.11 per round to commemorate the 9/11 anniversary. Didn't go over smoothly, they've been having to apologize a bit.

I'll see I I can find it...

I was reminded of Mencken's quip The older I get the more I admire and crave competence, just simple competence, in any field from adultery to zoology a couple days ago, when I went to the post office to buy stamps, and the post office ran out of stamps.

Maybe my perspective is flawed because the vast majority of customers that I deal with are over 40 because of my area, but I've noticed that the people who are most likely to throw hissy fits are 40+, usually 60+. Old ladies are typically the worst demographic. Of course, the vast majority of old people are very nice and I make friends with people of any age. If I had to choose the most polite demographic, I'd probably go with the people aged 20-mid 30s, especially the big, muscular guys with tattoos.

But like I said, my perspective may be flawed since such a small percentage of my customers are under 40. Just wondering if anyone notices the same thing in areas where young people actually make up the majority as customers.
