My girlfriend can't stand Wagner....
I've never known a woman who could, except for Eva Braun and Leni Riefenstahl.  Hmmm, I wonder how Hilary feels about your idol....

After a couple of boilermakers, who doesn't love Wagner?

Well, of course you're going to get that reaction, taking pictures at the 2008 annual convention of the Christian Temperance Union. As for me, most things seem pretty good after a couple of boilermakers.

David, I am seriously worried about your just being able to lay your hands on such a picture. Does she also like Mahler? Would she say Elgar was a similar sort of heavyweight to the other two?

LOL!  I operate in mysterious ways jochanaan  $:) .  It's Ok I got used to people slamming my idol.  My girlfriend can't stand Wagner, but she does have so many other redeeming qualities.  I played portions of the Ring for her and she couldn't believe that anybody could sit through 14+ hours of that!  She keeps me grounded, ok, I'd like to think she keeps me grounded  ::)..........

marvin (Global Moderator- at least when Wagner is involved  ;D)

Have you tried Wagner without singing, maybe she'll like that?  I don't like much Wagner myself, just a few instrumental pieces from the Opera's such as "The Ride of the Valkyries".

Here is my entire Wagner collection:

WAGNER, RICHARD (1813-1883)
The Rhine Gold: Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla (1869, transcription by Stokowski)
Stokowski, London Symphony Orchestra [Cassette] London Phase 4 Stereo C 224497
Die Walküre - Ride Of The Valkyries
Kunzel: Cincinnati Pops Orchestra [CD-R] Telarc

This is all the Wagner I desire.

Thanks for the advice but on the whole she found the music too "heavy" and had difficulty sustaining interest. I should have started with Mozart instead  :-\.

Perhaps, but I'd like to think that she must have adored Tristan und Isolde.  How soon we forget the Hans von Bulow-Cosima-Richard Wagner  "incident" $:).
