Yes Europe, uhuh, but I am talking about this clean little country, the country the Romans could never conquer, because as small as we are we defended our selfs with nice smelling mattresses. The Netherlands, the cleanest country in Europe! ;)

Sorry Harry, but EVERY bed has bugs/mites . They are so small that you cannot see them, but they are there. Getting rid of them is not easy -  if you're not allergic ( to their excrement...) it isnt really a big deal. Air the room, let the sun shine in , buy a new mattress every 8-10 year.
If you're allergic : mattresses can be treated by freezing them ! Anti mite covers can be bought.

I can easily imagine that mattresses have a chemical smell : foam, anti-mite products etc. AFAIK, the smell should go away after a while..;if not ????
I sleep on Pirelli "natural" foam (latex) - it is and was totaly odorless.

PS: I will buy a "TEMPUR" topper - it does increase the sleeping comfort !

As it happens, my wife and I just bought a new king-sized bed -smells great after two weeks even though our dog regularly sleeps on it.

If your dog smells, you should return it.

What brand was the stinky mattress?  My wife and I need a new mattress and I would like to avoid getting a stinky one.  :D

Macy's "Hotel" line.

We went with a Beautyrest instead, which is what we had before. A very nice mattress.

Our brand is Serta.  Never heard of a Hotel collection.

In my job, I travel a lot, so I get to "try" a lot of different mattresses, and the ones I have slept on best so far were those used by the Hampton Inn hotels (which also advertise their high quality mattresses, but that could just be hype). I looked at the label and it was a mattress made by Serta, forgot which model but I took a note. So I think I am going to buy that.

Don't subscribe to the Consumer Reports site expecting any mattress ratings.  They totally punt, claiming that the manufacturers and retailers play too many games with model numbers to make useful ratings possible.
