Enjoying Medtner's PC 3 (Tozer).  Planning to buy discs by other performers as well.

Just how does the Bernstein Symphony make it into a compilation like this?

Where's the family resemblance to the rest?

Only that Melodiya did have a certain preference for Western contemporary music with societal comments, when they took it up in recordings. They premiere-recorded the Nottingham Symphony by the British, communist composer Allan Bush, for example, and Honegger and Britten were also among their Western favourites. They'd avoid the more edgy, Western avant-garde from the 20th century.

I was thinking about buying another box called Treasures of World Music, but I should rather buy this set. Or, the both.  :)

Valere Burnon, a Belgian pianist who has studied in Germany, is one of the youngest promoters (22 years old) of the music of Protopopov.

He has a World Premiere recording of the Opus 32 Preludes by Serge Protopopov: I understand that he went to Russia to study the original manuscript.

Amazon Deutschland offers a download.

Here is the announcement on Burnon's FaceBook page:

An excellent performance of all the works listed!  Highly recommended, and not just for the rare Protopopov work!
"Meet Miss Ruth Sherwood, from Columbus, Ohio, the Middle of the Universe!"

- Brian Aherne introducing Rosalind Russell in  My Sister Eileen (1942)

Enjoyable, if not exceptional, recording.

Absolutely zero recordings though according to Amazon. An untapped well of music?
