Can you recommend one on record, please?  Of LvB sonatas, specifically.  I know good period piano performances from the late 19th Century exist, but I've yet to hear a pianoforte performance that impresses me favorably.

I have a whole topic at my site devoted to Beethoven chamber music on the fortepiano, with many tracks you can download. I suggest you try them, though you will have to register to see the tracks.  :o

The HIP movement hasn't been very successful with Beethoven.

Utter nonsense.  :o

Sorry -- I did not come across this thread until just now.

I just wanted to go ahead and cast another vote for the Praga Richter. I'm always amazed in his live recordings how he is able to show tremendous restraint one moment, completely break loose when the music calls for it, and then calm back down on command. In this recording, he shows just how cool a customer he can be, displaying incredible restraint in the first movement in particular, yet playing the whole piece with undeniable vigor. Very good recording!

FWIW, that first Forum was an orange and purple color scheme.   ;D

Herman was the only one who was even mildly encouraging (guess that's why he didn't make it for the long haul  ;D )

LOL! Great times! I'd forgotten about the various colour schemes (I think we briefly had a black one?). Anyone else suddenly, shockingly hearing Cher's If I Could Turn Back Time? Ah!!!!!!! LOL!
