AGP112 is the first of three featuring works by the early 20th century Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck. He may be a bit of a strange choice for the AGP, since his works date from earlier in the century than most installments, and since he was something of a throwback in being among the last to continue the romantic lieder tradition. But I've always been a sucker for overripe chromaticism, and he is underrepresented on CD.

This installment includes two late collections of lieder, one accompanied by orchestra and the other by piano. Nachhall is transcribed from a Jecklin LP (Disco 535) that has been released on CD but is now out of print. I thought of asking for a transcription of the CD, but this LP transcription is practically flawless, so I don't think it much matters. Das Stille Leuchten is transcribed from an Accord LP (MU 312) that doesn't appear to have made its way onto CD. It is a delightfully rich and clear recording, and the LP is in great shape. The last three tracks on the LP feature historic recordings from 1949 with the composer on the piano.
