I would think that ''America'' is no longer a great civilization. Is this notion really that moronic?

Not really, you are entitled to your opinion like all of us. Just show some evidence to backup your enormous claims and see if anybody agrees with you.

Dundonnell and Florestan, it was nice of you to apologize but I have done the same thing to other threads.  I thought comparing politicians' taste in music was interesting.

Two times I have seen the same info from Obama: he likes Bach.  The names of the work are given.  Unfortunately I have yet to learn Bach and can't remember the names of the works.  One time was during the primary and all the candidates revealed their preferences in music.  He was the only one who liked classical.

I had an idea.  Perhaps we could invite him to this BB.  We could tell him that he is welcome, that he would not have to reveal his name but could register under a pseudonym.  I think he would enjoy the posters who frequent this board.  We could tell him that people here like to discuss composers, and recommend good recordings, and learn from each other.

What does everyone think of that idea?  Good?  Bad?  Would  anyone like to write the email?  Maybe email is not the appropriate way to address the president-to-be.

Florestan

Anne, do you really believe he'll have time to post here?  :)

And heaven knows he's miserable now ;)
I would withhold my vote until he specified which recordings he preferred.

And, of course, liking Russian music might become something of a political issue in the near future :(

;D ;D

Yo-Yo Ma played Bach solo cello suites for the fake President in The West Wing...I'll bet he'll do the same for a real President now.

The soloists chosen are a bit of a cliche though (not counting the fine ensemble Obama is having for lunch!  ;D ).

Yes, but Josiah Bartlett was a man of culture, intelligence, discrimination, taste...........he wasn't real, was he ;D

It'd be a great idea if you want the Secret Service monitoring this site.

Florestan, I had thought maybe our url could be saved somewhere if he ever wanted to use it (ie found some time).  You're probably right though - he won't have time.

Todd, you are right!  That never crossed my mind.  Ditch that idea as far as I'm concerned.  Those people look rather menacing even if they can't catch shoes.
