A Little Cortot Problem. [Bad Pressings!]

Some of you might remember I recently bought this wonderful box set:

However, in common with other EMI box sets of that "cut" (mainly that time period, in terms of release date), one of the discs and my only currently available disc readers (i.e. my laptops' DVD-ROM drives) are having something of a disagreement.

The likely cause, not limited to such EMI box sets (though I've only seen it happen on EMI and Testament discs), seems to be something with the pressing, and how my drives respond to it; rather, how they don't. The disc plays normally through a CD player, or a discman.

In any case, until this point I have relied on a friend, whose PC's more rugged CD-ROM drive could read (and rip) the discs perfectly in their entirety. But as my friend and I are no longer living close to each other, at this point, I am stuck with three Waltzes that I cannot rip.

The reason this is a problem for me is that I consistently rip all of my collection to a hard drive, for backup: and I do it via iTunes, using the Apple Lossless codec across the board for consistency and iPod compatibility (which FLAC does not offer).

So the question is, would anyone among us who owns the above box set possibly be as kind as to rip Waltzes #12, #13, #14 for me using iTunes, in Apple Lossless format, and upload them at Mediafire, Rapidshare, or the upload service of their preference?

Suffice to say, I would be more than indebted to anyone who could help.

(If I wasn't in the middle of moving country, I would not have bothered you at all with this, and found a way to deal with the problem on my own; maybe replaced the disc. Yet I will be sending my CDs ahead of me in a week or two, and there is a need for me to "wrap up" my backup.)

Many thanks in advance for your aid! :)

Edit: And yes, technically, this thread belongs to the "recordings" board. But it isn't about the recording per se, so I thought I'd make it here.

DFO

IMO, the problem with Cortot was Cortot. If he would have
a little of piano technique, all would be well. His wrong
notes are legendary.

*chuckles* A little off-topic, but I won't blame you: the title is odd.

Cortot, in my opinion, had no problem at all! If only the EMI pressings would oblige me. ;D

I used to have the same set, and I have them readily ripped... not losless however (256kps mp3). Let me know if you are interested.

Drasko

I have the set but none of the other requirements - no iTunes, no Apple lossless, even if had those can't upload lossless with my current connection, sorry.

Many thanks for the offer, orbital. However, I do prefer using one format for all my backup (and a lossless format even when it's overkill, for exactly the same reason, backup). But I will certainly keep this in mind, if no other solution is readily available. Thanks again! :)

(At worst, I'll mail my friend the disc in September, so he can rip it and mail it back. ;D)

And thank you, Drasko. Don't worry about it. :)

You can send it to me too, I am pretty close by  ;D

I agree about keeping a standard. I started with mp3s and so it went...

The Waltzes are also on Naxos

and in much better sound than the EMI

This might be a better alternative

Cheers

Thank you. I am anyway picking up the Naxos release. The reason I want those three Waltzes transferred is for the sake of proper archiving, as I will still be keeping the EMI box set. By all means, call me a pedant! ;)

hmmmmm too bad you missed the thread i had on "replacement tracks" in situations such as these......
but now i can't even find it myself!  >:(
