Aha! Nobody is perfect, not even our new member Michael. Why? Complete lack of listing the most important name: Richard Wagner!

I am kidding you, Michael! Here at GMG we have a rather small, but very impressive Wagner lobby and I hope you'll become a member too!

Hojotoho!

Welcome! We share a surprising amount of things we enjoy, apart from Star Trek! (I'm a Star Wars fan ;D) And when I was your age, all of two years ago, I had the very same frustrations about the very same topics. Sadly, I'm less in touch with physics than I was then, though. :(

But I can catch up, I hope. ;) How are you with Mahler, pray tell?

(And your English is fine, by the way.)

So your ancestors are from Slovakia?

Yes, my maternal grandfather's family came from what is now called Slovakia but when they were living there it was all still part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. According to my family tree I had ancestors who were from other places in Slovakia like Piestany, Bratislava, Velke Krstenany and Topolcany.  8)

Well, I am not great fan of Star Wars, but I watched all the movies and liked them ;)
Mahler is fantastic(one of my favourite composers), I have complete Bertini's recordings and Bernstein's dvd recordings od DG, I can't image to live without Mahler ;D ;)

A warm welcome from Bucharest, Romania!

Your introduction reminded me of my high-school days when I found physics and mathematics taught in classes boring, while immersing myself in the history and philosophy of those sciences...

My most vivid "real-life" recollections from Prague are a Czech folksong I heard incidentally while passing by an open window and a good mug of Budweiser.

Well, nevermind. Welcome again and do enjoy your time here!

Hi, Michael!

Can you remember the name of those famous caves south of Prague that I mentioned above? I have been trying to remember but without success!

And more than fair enough indeed! Not only a Mahlerian, but a Mahlerian with good taste (if you ask me). :D

And if it comes to Czech I think it's really very difficult language to learn if you don' speak similar language(e.g. Polish, Slovak, Russian, etc.)

Although they are similar, none of the above uses Cyrillic alphabet but Russian.
I could understand some Czech whilst listening to Janáček 's operas, and the music is magnificent. :D

Welcome aboard, Michael! :D

I spent a fascinating few days in Prague last summer, in baking heat. Greetings from East Sussex in England and welcome to the group. Czech/Slovak composers I like are Martinu, Novak, Suk and Kalabis.
