His favored tool was the late-night text message, including invitations to sexual activities and photos of his...self.

"Between 2005 and 2010, the magazine reported, some young players in Les Siècles were warned not to answer Roth's messages. Others preferred to laugh it off, seeing the texts as a rite of passage."

Roth has temporarily quit the Gürzenich Orchestra and Cologne Opera while a law firm investigates. The former head of the Orchestre de Paris has confirmed that the orchestra knew about Roth's behavior when they chose to hire Klaus Mäkelä instead.

The original French-language investigation appears to be behind a paywall. If anyone can see it, be aware, it includes screenshots of Roth's texts.

At least he wasn't caught trying to hook up with a 14 year old like Jan Latham-Koenig :-[ .

One could almost begin to believe in physiognomy... sometimes one who looks like creep not only looks like that.

Doesn't work for FX Roth, though; he does look nice.
I am probably "too 1990s" to understand the de facto ban on relationships at/around work (just look how many marriages/partnerships would not have been possible if almost everything could count as harrassment and lead to trouble) but even less an atmosphere where a d*ck p*c is supposed to be enticing...

The rules around workplace relationships are not as draconian as you suggest. When I worked in places big enough to have a policy, the rule was that relationships are okay if they are consensual. But a relationship is by definition not consensual when one party is the supervisor of the other. It is ok for people at the same administrative level, or at different levels as long as one does not report to the other. The big problem, even in consensual relationships, is that if things go south you are in the same workplace and can't avoid each other.

The Roth situation comes as no surprise to me. If you give someone enough power and that power goes to their head, then sooner or later they're going hang themselves or get hung. It was only a matter of time before bad conduct comes back around. It is absolutely unprofessional that Roth should have any orchestra member's phone number to begin with.
