Quote from: Howard KurtzFinally, London's Daily Mail on the latest in divorces:

"A wife discovered her 12-year marriage was over after her husband posted a message on Facebook.

"Emma Brady, 39, only learned of the posting when her best friend living in Denmark telephoned to see if she was alright. The message read: 'Neil Brady has ended his marriage to Emma Brady.' "

From this column.

Anyone else creeped out by the Netflix bot on facebook, which responded practically instantaneously to news of Swayze's death with "Hey, getcher Swayze rentals here at Netflix!" . . . ?

Well, but you think creepy is a good thing  8)

It's probably nothing.  As soon as I saw it, though, the first thing to come to mind was a line from Firsegn Theatre, "An exploitation of the freshly dead."

It's the Internet fer chrissakes!

I just started Facebooking a few days ago. It's a very mixed experience. On the positive side: I've learned some interesting things about people I know (such as their ages and humor) and I've made a nice re-connection with my brother. I found a couple of old school friends but (Sonic will be happy to know) no old boyfriends. On the negative side, I've had to read a lot of useless junk; the worst was meaningless gobbledygook typed by a friend's child.  I may not continue FB once the novelty wears off.

Perhaps you'll get a future boyfriend 'friend' request?  :D ;)

You said it, there is a fairly high annoyance factor.  Some people seem to feel the need to share every single detail of their life (ie. having a nap, going to the bathroom, etc)  ;D

I haven't found a way to delete posts after I have read them. If I try to "hide" them, then FB tells me that they will not send me anything else from that writer--which isn't what I want. After I read that Kathy's cat sat on the table, I really don't want that epistle coming up again and again.

Shortly after I "friended" our son Stephen, his cats sent me an invitation to join Catbook. True. There are a whole bunch of apps for different populations. There is even Ferretbook, which I find really creepy.

That's what happened to me.

The novelty wore off before I tried it. My GF has one of these extended families that are in constant contact by whatever means...letters, postcards, phone, email, gravity waves...so FB is just the thing for them. My contribution comes down to "Ernie says hi!". That exhausts my communication skills.

Facebook was one of the many sites I tried out, but frankly to keep oversight, you need to cut down in the sites you go to. Facebook was totally uninteresting for me, as was MSN, Yahoo, Toxbox, Twitter, Skype, MySpace, and so on.
Only ooVoo, and LV are any interest to me.

I am growing to like it.  It has many features similar to an RSS feed - and I get the opportunity to inflict my views on my friends & relatives
