Haven't heard of that before.  Did you make it yourself?

No, though I suppose I could. It was the Soup of the Day at Lulu's in Salem.

If you can and feel comfortable cooking, it's normally cheaper to cook for yourself (plus you get multiple meals).

True enough. I went to Lulu's for our weekly Study, and I was delivered early, so there you have it.

Well, if you enjoyed it, that's all that matters.  :)

Heard today that Waffle House (apparently a pretty big chain of restaurants in the US) has put a temporary price increase on egg orders--an extra 50 cents per egg (due to the shortage of eggs due to avian bird flu wiping out a big number of laying hens.  Heard that it will take about 9 months for the flocks to get back to pre-af numbers).  @LKB how are the egg levels and prices where you are and have you seen any price increases in your neck of the woods.  I know how much you love your eggs.

And it's not just things like eggs and omelettes will be effected; I suspect that other products will go up (Think about how many different things, like cookies, for example) have eggs in them.

I took a deep dive into the issue. I went into the Waffle House subreddit which is filled with employees. It is not corporate greed. The price that Waffle House is paying for eggs went through the roof. I had a 12-pack from before the avian flu scare. Since I don't have LKB's appetite for eggs, I still have a few left.

I love eggs, but I think that all these horrible animal farms are propagating viruses so quickly I wouldn't be surprised if inevitably I became vegan. It is borderline animal cruelty, and inevitably we as a species will pay for it. I'm not at that point yet.

It's not "just" domestic chickens that have been effected by it but also wild birds, cattle, and human beings in close contact.  And, perhaps, think about buying eggs from a local person that raises chickens or an organic and free range source.

Here, a minor confession: I cannot cook.  ???

So whenever I mention eggs, it means I'm thinking about my favorite diner, where they know my passion and simply ask, " Six or eight today? "  ;D

While I know walking in what the bill will be, I actually have no idea what the price of eggs is for a shopper here.

;D

There is a local diner here that only services breakfast. Cheap, great food. Even if they went the Waffle House route I think it would still be relatively inexpensive.

Honestly, I was imagining you cracking egg after egg after egg into a mixing bowl—guess the wrong image.
