Aparently even her fellow GOP gov's are also completely unimpressed with her, and think her national presence is ultimately damaging the party.

I read somewhere that about half of all Republican voters are very much taken with Palin.  That puts her in good position for future campaigns depending on what she does in the next couple of years.  So I doubt that we've seen the last of her.

McCain aide cites 'failure of management'

The $150K fracas did not make Palin look good (so to speak).  Closer scrutiny may not quite vindicate her, but the mismanagement here hinted at (again) perforce reflects worse on McCain's decision process.

Here's my take on the $150k clothes.  Put yourself in her place.  Here is this chothing she did not buy or want.  It is time to prepare for departure to Alaska.  What do you do with them?  I would entrust someone to take them to a GOP official.  Case closed.

2nd scenario:  here is this clothing in her size and she would really like to have it.  It is time to depart to Alaska.
What does she do with the clothing now?  I believe she would take it with her.  Given that possession is 9/10's of the law, no lawyer is going to come to Alaska to remove some woman's clothing and take it back to the mainland.  Result?  She gets to keep them.

To test my theory, how many men here would be willing to take a woman's clothing and take it back to mainland US?
First let's get over your initial response of EVERYONE volunteering to take the lady's clothing.   ;D   When that has died away, who is willing to take her clothing?  I believe no one would volunteer.  Result?  She keeps the clothing.

I believe this was anticipated before she left for home.  If she succeeds in keeping them, she has been told that she'll have to pay taxes on this gift.  She does not like that idea.  (Remember she said the clothing was just like the lighting fixtures or podium - simply things necessary to do her job and that they are not taxed.

This is the woman who slept in her own house but charged per diem to the state since she's been governor, also the one who charged the state for numerous plane rides for her family and also revisited those expense charges while in mainland US and changed or added to the documentation showing that the children were on state approved travel for official function.) )  What better thing to happen than have some of the clothing turn up missing!  I read several times that people were saying that clothing was missing and the people in charge were unable to solve the missing clothing problem.

I'm still trying to figure out how and why silk boxers were purchased for her husband.

True, but this is the equivalent of many registered Democrats being very taken by Dennis Kucinich or Al Sharpton.  Might work for the base, but for anyone across the aisle, or even independent, the person is perceived as a devisive wing-nut.  Not the overall appeal needed for a general election.

She might give a speech at future GOP conventions, but that's about it.  I'll lay a bet of the Bach Sacred Cantatas box set with anyone on this.

But she has the opportunity to widen her appeal and the base.  We'll see what happens.

The most successful politicians reinvent themselves over time.  Palin didn't claw her way to the limelight just to fade away now.

Hey, she "impresses because she is impressive. She played high school basketball with reckless abandon [Holy moly!] earning the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" en route to the state championship. She won a beauty pageant. [What credentials!] She married her high school sweetheart and started a family. [Wow! you mean a real family, like with kids?] She partnered with her husband, a union member, in a commercial fishing business. She worked as a television sportscaster before entering politics. [Let's not forget all those colleges she attended!]'"

I'm so impressed I could just poop in my pants.  :P

Given her negative ratings in approval polls jumped from 20% to 40% during the month of September, she better hope America has a short memory.

No need for hope.

Question for you all, gentlemen: is the principle "one man, one vote" right?

In other words, is it right that Joe the Plumber's vote is equal to, and has the same weight, as Joe Biden's?
