Next you'll be telling me you don't know Brian's Gothic intimately!  :o :o

I had to google that...

Remember, rural Irish upbringing = very much not exposed to classical music if your family isn't into it! :p
My favourite words in classical: "Molto vivace"

Yes, I'm shallow.

The new erato

Was being heavily ironic here.  ;D

I saw "performed at 2011 Proms" and figured I should have heard of it at least last year except I was in hospital during the Proms. :)

Elgar Violin Concerto on Spotify. Enjoying it for a first listen.

Do you know his cello concerto, nesf? It's thrilling, specially if performed by Jacqueline du Pré.  :)

Next up for a listen. Though Spotify's ads are annoying me.

Just ordered all 3 volumes from your side of the pond 2 days ago ...

I'm sure you'll love them!

Most people with common sense haven't heard of Havergal Brian's music ;D He's something of a GMG speciality - don't mistake our rabid enthusiasm for him as anything like a confirmation of notability :)

Ok, it's sounding a lot better to me today. I really hate how my mood colours my views of music (and other things). When I was younger I used to mistake it for genuine dislike and wrote off entire genres of music because I listened to them for the first time while depressed/whatever. Ditto writers, philosophers etc.

Edit: Ok, I think I need to buy this du Pré album... :D

Well, I think you won't regret. Even you'll probably need to order her Brahms' cello sonatas at the same time.  ;D

While updating my archive to some new formatting -

Scarlatti: 14 Sonatas
Gustav Leonhardt (hpd)

No recording date given, (P) 1979

One of the recordings from my old LP collection that I renewed to CD format.

Not totally in the mood for the Beethoven/Mendelssohn disc, so switched to this:

Treat yourself - and your family. Get the Du Pre box set. Then save up for the Yo-Yo Ma box. Oh, and you can't do without Rostropovich.

On Havergal Brian, there was a brilliant quote in last month's Gramophone - I don't have it handy, but something about second rate composers.

In honor of the day,  finishing my first (but far from last) traversal of the Hogwood/AAM Complete Symphonies box with CDs 17-19.  Now on the first work of CD 19, whose Koechel number looks like a math or chemistry equation:  Sinfonia in  si bemolle maggiore, Anh.C11.03/K3=74g

But took a time out to listen to some new music for orchestra
Jeffrey Quick: Prayers in the Night Sky
                    Huntress

He's a cyberfriend of mine.  You can find those pieces, and a good deal more he's uploaded (including liturgical choral and secular instrumental) here: http://blog.case.edu/jeffrey.quick/podcasts/index

I recall you were smart enough to get that Italian edition, isn't it?  :)

I have some Yo-Yo Ma and Rostropovich already, just missing some du Pré. The box set looks a bit pricey to me on Amazon.
