Here in Boston, it tends to be programmed on Pops concerts.  Arguably, that's a good way to avoid saturation, for what is really a fine piece . . . .

Interesting. What would qualify it for a Pops concert? I guess I haven't seen many orchestral pieces included in Pops, but I also don't pay much attention to them I guess.

Karl Henning

Well, the Boston Pops at any rate has traditionally programmed works such as The Planets, Copland's El salón México, the Bizet Carmen Suite, Joh Strauss Jr waltzes, &c.

Why the Holst joins that company probably has to do with the resonance which John Williams absorbed for purposes of Star Wars.  Of course, the Holst Suite is in every sense concert-worthy music.

Vivaldis op.4 concertos (La Stravaganza).

This is the first time I listen to this recording. Rachel Podger plays the violin and the orchestra is Arte Dei Suonatori.
Amazing sound on this recording, and great playing.

Listening to an excellent rendition of Bach's Leipzig Chorales on the Rondeau label - a very sturdy and majestic performance with appealing registrations:

Schumann 4 for the 'Blind Comparison' survey.

Not particularly excited by this first recording that has been voted into the top 5. I wonder which recording it is....

Expecting far better from the other 4 I have lined up for tonight!

But still enjoying it, it is Schumann 4 afterall! :)

Moved on to the second Schumann 4 in the list, far far better! :D Wonderful performance so far, and if I am correct in my guess in who the conductor is, the rest of the performance will be excellent too. ;D
