Remarkable stuff. I had avoided Lyapunov until now because Russian piano music of the period tended to be "nice" and not much more, but this is dazzling, poetic and ambitious.

Disc 1 from this Matthäus-Passion:

Willoughby earl of Itacarius

So, if you were ever asking yourself, does Harry have a absolute favourite recording that he would chose above all others, which he reveres as if it were a deity on a shrine, I say its this one. I cannot imagine more comfort and bliss then listening forever to this disc. Its absolute heaven for me.

Die Walkure: Act 2

Amazing music! Absolutely thrilling, with many many beautiful, moving moments. Looking forward to Act 3 which will be listened to tommorow. :)

:D

Glad you liked the second act, it's so touching and passionate, so impressive! The Vorspiel is absolutely thrilling, haunting, with the "Sword" and "Flight" motives powerfully bursting in, merged with the theme of the Walkurenritt! The atmosphere is higly intense and dramatic there, but incredibly beautiful.
The third act is even better, enjoy it tomorrow. :)

For a glorious, sunny Saturday morning - Spring has arrived in the Northwest!

Robert Schumann
Violin concerto in D minor
John Storgårds, violin; Leif Segerstam; Tampere PO

I don't believe I've heard this piece before.  Very nice!  Yet not nearly as well-known as his piano or cello concertos...

So much great music, so little time...

A fine disc indeed! There is more out there if you enjoy this (a recent re-issue of an Olympia disc on Divine Art played by Anthony Goldstone, a disc on Helios with Stephen Coombs).
Be kind to your fellow posters!!
