Okay, I'll bite. :) What is #7 (a reworking or transcription, would be my guess) and is there evidence to suggest there was more to it than six?

Nah, it's just an arrangement of the Viola da Gamba Sonata BWV 1027.  I don't recall who arranged it, but it wasn't Bach.

Yep, after BWV 1029; it is good listening anyway, and fits in with the others well.

Now, #6: Hogwood / AAM

Thanks, guys. I'm curious about the association with B'burg. I mean, they could have called it an arrangement of the sonata after B'burg, or something like that. :)

Thread Duty: Still with Locke. Duo for bass viols No. 1.

Yes, I was way off about BWV 1027; I should have known right-off from the tempo markings of the 1st movement.

My all time favorite

It's one of my favourite Mahler's symphonies as well, along with No.6, No.7 and No.1 :) Karajan's recording is particularly beautiful and thrilling, he was really a wonderful mahlerian conductor (besides being my favourite in general).

His second recording of 9th is really something for me Lisztianwagner. Nice to see you like it

I haven't found a Karajan recording which doesn't satisfy me yet.

Not as dramatic or powerful as Rosary sonatas or some of his choral work (Requiems, Missa...) but very inventive and always enjoyable, I always love Biber's technique of shifting between different tempi during his works.

Yeah, it's a pretty good recording. I wouldn't say it's my favorite Pictures but it's certainly a good performance all-around. I'm still enamored with Reiner's, Maazel's, and Gergiev's recordings of Pictures though. Those are my favorite performances of this work.

More piano works, now playing CD3 - works of Chopin and Schumann from the following set for a first listen ...

I like the re-issue of the recording with Karajan/BPO and also Lazar Berman on the piano, which really offers a nice comparison between the orchestral version and the piano version ...
