By me, Telemann suffers not from what I do not know, but from what I have experienced, reading various pieces of music, and listening in the concert hall and on radio. So the good turn of this Leonhardt/Kuijkens disc was not the dispelling of any shade, but a positive experience come to counterbalance many a negative.

Understood.  I was not accusing you, just commenting on the possibility in general.  This discussion reminds me of something one of my teachers used to say, "I want to know what you think, not what you've heard."

And, you've said what you think, and there is no arguing with that.

Such an amazing symphony and a great performance by Rattle.

What am I listening to? Too many Mahler Scherzos  :D

Their reaction to the work was quite good, except for one incorrigible boy in whom the music catalyzed either a petit-mal seizure or a Tourette's episode: perhaps the Ritalin was past the expiration date!   $:)

I stopped it after the first two scenes: we will need to spread it through tomorrow and Friday.

And then later with nobody around to complain about it:

Are there any other 7ths you're particularly fond of? I like Abbado's with the CSO a lot, but I remember Boulez's being quite good, but I need to acquint myself with the all the performances I have at my disposal. I went through a huge Mahler phase a few years ago.

John and Karlo, great to see you both listening to Mahler! Rattle's performance of the 7th is certainly very good. One of my favourite 7ths would be Solti's. I just love nearly all of his Mahler in general really. The performance of the 7th is thrilling! I have MTT's LSO performance on the listening pile, as well as those of Sinopoli, Tennstedt and Bertini, all of which I am looking forward to listening to! Such a great piece! :)

Yes, I've heard many good things about MTT's 7th with the LSO. I'll have to listen to that one when I feel I'm better acquinted to do so. I don't recall Solti's 7th, but now I'm really excited to hear it! 8)

Yes, I purchased it as I was told many good things about it, and also as I had listened to a particularly outstanding performance the MTT had given of the 7th with the SFO at the BBC Proms, which you can find on youtube. :)
Yes, be excited about the Solti 7th! Such a great performance! And his 6th is my favourite as well at the moment.

Sadly no, John. This EMI box and Rattle's superb 5th are the only Mahler I own.

MTT's Mahler 7 with LSO is one of the few Mahler recordings I own, it's muy bien. The 7th is one of the few Mahler symphonies that I enjoy owning multiple versions of, MTT, Boulez and Berstein on DG, all off very different results.

Thread duty...

Karlo, are you relatively new to Mahler's music or have you been exposed to before?

I'm curious to hear those. I don't think my Dad owns them yet as they are very expensive.
