There's a set at CDN$86.07 at amazon.ca right now, and the Canadian dollar is below par

Listening to Gloria. This box set is a treasure trove of goodies for the Poulenc fan and Dutoit was at his best in Poulenc.

One of the best Shosty 5th performances on record IMHO. Everything is handled with such an unbridled passion.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Richard Rodney BENNETT:  Diversions        Violin Concerto        Symphony no. 3
Vadim Gluzman, violin       Monte-Carlo Philharmonic      James de Priest, cond.
not very memorable.
JOLIVET: Chant de Linos    McKINLEY: Three Romances      GRIFFES  Poem
PIAZZOLLA  6 Études Tanguistiques (solo flute)
Stephanie Jutt, flute    Randall Hodgkinson, piano
This was quite enjoyable, the 7/8 rhythm in the Jolivet quite catchy.

Perfect before going to bed... (vol 13 of Naxos Grieg piano series)...

This series is in my ears a very successful one, fastly underrated, and ignored by the experts in the field.

I have now accumulated 9 of them (of 14) and all have been excellent so far (with #14 still to go - ripped, but not yet listened). I am missing 5-7 and 11-12.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Kartik Seshadri.

Illuminations.

Raga Anandi Kalyan.

01) Alap, Jor and Jhala.
02) Gat in Jhaptala.

A late evening melody belonging to the Kalyan group of Raga's, with shades of other popular raga's, Bihag and Nat. The raga uses both trivra, sharp, and komal, flat, Madhyam, Fourth notes. The movement of this raga is Vakra, zig-zag, roughly following this ascending and descending pattern.

Raga Basant Mukhari.

03) Aochar, slow and fast Gat in Teentala.

This is a morning Raga using Komal Swara (s), flat notes for Re, that's the second note, Dha, sixth note, and Ni, seventh note.

Kartik Seshadri, Sitar.
Arup Chatterjee, Tabla.
Anne Seshadri, Treble Tanpura.
Terry Longshore, Bass Tanpura.

Kartik Seshadri is a pupil of Ravi Shankar, and a renown Sitar player on his own, which you hear in these two beautifully performed Raga's. Its doesn't come much better! He sets the moods perfectly, and is accompanied perfectly. As far as Indian music concerns, this is a recommendation.

Anton Ferdinand Titz

String quartets 1, 3, 4, 5

Hoffmeister-Quartett

[asin]B000FGGKLM[/asin]

Edit: I made made a mistake with the titles, the works are rather:

Quartett c-moll (Nr. 4 von Sechs Quartette 1781)
Quartett d-moll (Nr. 5 von Sechs Quartette 1781)
Quartett G-dur (Nr. 1 von Drei Quartette 1802)
Quartett a-moll (Nr. 3 von Drei Quartette 1802)

Very nice music. I like this composer, also this CD:

Wikipedia says both spellings exist "Titz" and "Tietz".
