Birtwistle: The Mask of Orpheus

Been listening to this opera on Spotify the past few days, becoming more enamored with every listen, I find the use of electronics very haunting and at the same time mesmerizing. Making me very anxious to listen to The Minotaur

Meditation on a motif of Claude Debussy   9 Pieces op. 3,   7 Pieces op. 11
and Marosszék Dances
Kornél Zempléni, piano
all short, with folk influence conspicuous.

The romantic piano concerto is not my  preferred genre; but this is a very nice wallow in romantic formulas!

Enjoying this more than I remember - the Adagio is especially gorgeous!  The orchestral playing may not be the best available, and there may be some extraneous noise from the podium and the audience, but I'm having that feeling of hearing a favorite work again for the first time - and that's just what a great performance should do!
So much great music, so little time...

Every time you mention this composer, I start to get hungry.  Lokshen-kugel [in Yiddish, lokshen means noodle and kugel means pudding] was my mother's specialty in the home-made way of desserts.

Sounds appetising :-)

Maybe it even is a Jewish name, I don't know.
