What an enchanting, delightful piece!
I don't know Butterworth's music very much, but I really love his English Idyll No.1. :)
That comes from the disc below. It's very nice, but the Butterworth is outstanding.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much too, Ilaria!
About the Rattle/BPO broadcast, here are the links to the first and second parts:

These shall be available until Thursday. :)

Certainly, Ilaria! Unfortunately, Butterworth could only leave a very small output, as he was tragically killed so young in the First World War.... The music he did leave though is absolutely enchanting, as you say. Really beautiful! :)

Thank you, Daniel, I'll have a listen to them immediately!! I haven't heard Ligeti's Atmospheres yet, I'm quite curious. ;)

Yes, poor Butterworth.....I discovered his music while I was looking for some Kleiber's performances on youtube; certainly agree it's splendid! :)

I have the following recording of Buttersworth's works by William Boughton, who is now the conductor of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, which is some 40 miles from my house.

Mahler Symphony #6  A minor, Chailly conducting the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig (the recent Proms concert).
That was every bit as good as Daniel said. Perfect tempi, including the surprisingly fast and sparkling Alma theme. Makes me salivate for a Chailly/Leipzig cycle!

Glad you enjoyed it so much, Dave! Certainly, as I was saying to Sarge earlier, his new Leipzig 2 and 8 are on DVD already, perhaps, and hopefully, we could be hoping for a whole new Chailly/Leipzig DVD cycle! That would certainly be something to be extremely excited about! :)

Kleiber? In British music? In Butterworth? Wow, something I was not expecting to hear tonight! Thank you for sharing, Ilaria! :)

The Complete Haydn String Quartets

CD6: Op. 9 Nos. 4, 1 & 3
CD7: Op. 9 Nos. 2, 5 & 6

After some discussion here, I have again listened to these two discs. My opinion is not different: these recordings will work out as a fine introduction to Haydn's string quartets, especially for people who don't like period instruments. I have noticed some stylistic changes from CD to CD in this ensemble, which it's a bit weird considering that this Op. 9 was recorded in the lapse of  just one year. Anyway, I liked very much the CD6, with the first part of the set. The second CD is less recommendable, IMO, especially because of the slow movements - quite over romanticized - with too long musical phrases, sometimes almost without Classical articulation.

Definitely, a new Chailly/Leipzig cycle would certainly great! ;D

My pleasure :) Yes, I was very surprised when I saw it as well, it's a rather unusual choice for Kleiber.
