Thanks for the warning guys. I just ordered the CD. Before the first listen, I'll take off my socks and then listen barefoot.

Sarge

I just ordered it too.  Fortunately,  this is Florida, so sandals will do nicely.
(This has actually been on my wishlist since whenever we had the 100 Favorite Piano Concertos thread.)

Thread duty:
after listening to Barshai conducting DSCH Eleventh Symphony (actually, only a mediocre performance, unlike the previous ten, but I guess every set has to have a low point),  decided to return to the Teldec Bach box and begin listening to one of the segments I have to explore.

CD 93 of the box, CD 1 of the cycle:  Bach, various "free" organ works, Ton Koopman, playing a Rudolf Garrels organ, built 1729-1732, Grote Kerk, Maassluis

However, I just popped in to get my tolerance tested (  ;) ) and another member's note elsewhere reminded me of what a great set this is:

Pounds the table!

I have to admit that I have yet to listen to much in that set (I have it in the big Karajan Symphonies box) beyond the 5th, which is my favorite 5th.

I finally found some time to get to the new Schubert Symphony set that arrived recently (VPO/Kertesz). And listenting to disc 2 (sym 4 & 5), I have to say very enjoyable so far. I'm not disappointed at all, so thanks to those who commented on it...

Now:

A. Dvorak
Stabat Mater
N.Jaervi / LPO

LPO live

German link - UK link

Earlier:

B. Martinů
Piano Trios
Arbor Piano Trio

Naxos

German link - UK link

Those are not Martinů's strongest works, I daresay. I found myself consistently disappointed... and it's not, for all I can tell, because of the performances which seem spirited.

Also Dvořák:

Symphony No. 9
Slavonic Dances 1, 3, 8

Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
Leonard Bernstein

Brahmsian

The new erato

Superb disc, and the sonata no 4 in particular is great.

I think it's a great recording, very well performed by Jansons and the RCO. The first movement is haunting and powerfully emotional, I love the floating, colourful melodies of the woodwinds, that have reminded me Debussy's music; a good contrast with the lyrical second movement. The climax in the finale is very thrilling and the following coda is also enchanting.

Wow, it looks excellent; it also contains Pacifix 231, it's one of my favourite Honegger's works!

Blistering performance, but I definitely didn't enjoy the recording quality. Pretty shrill, and an unconvincing soundstage. I expect more of a new recording. I reported on it a couple of days ago in this thread.

I didn't have problems with the recording quality, it's very good in my opinion.

Oh, shrill and bad soundstage in the same sentence? Sounds like a miss for me. :)
