How's the audio quality on this recording, Sarge?

Decent, more than listenable, and gets better as it progresses because there is eventually less audience noise. It takes them a few moments to settle down. They ruin the mysterious opening...well, not ruin but it definitely loses some of its magic.

That is VERY bizarre -- unless I'm just weird because Shosty's 6th doesn't remind me of lightly clothed nubile women frolicking on a cross country jaunt.

Duh. It's about the 9th!  ;)

Quote...That's particularly true for the Ninth Symphony, coy and glittery and frivolously charming, with a brass section that sounds like the Keystone Kops at band-camp. Dainty ballet-girls and beer hall oompah-bands never existed in such harmonious proximity...

This afternoon - continuing w/ the box below:

The conductor, Yuri Siminov.  I bet his Tchaikovsky is great.  I have some Katchaturian by him which is awesome, and I told myself to look out for that conductor.  This is the first time I've seen his name pop up (although it's probably 'popped up' many times).  Very interesting.  I'm away to look for some of his stuff, including that Brilliant Classics box.   :D

This guy may be a great underrated conductor. When I was still in Moscow, I heard a great concert by him, including a sizzling Heldenleben. But that's been my only experience with him.
