Diversions is one of my favorite Britten works. I particularly enjoy the Osborne/Volkov performance more than the Donohoe/Rattle.

Yes its a nice piece for sure - giving it a second play now. A good start to this new box!  8)

Janacek - In the Mist / On an Overgrown path

That looks like an awesome release, and I must get it as soon as I can.  Orchestral works (Eg; Taras Bulba, etc) AND the Mist and the Path for piano on the same set also?  AND his brilliant String Quartet 2 (Intimate Letters)??  I'm going to have to look that up RIGHT NOW whilst listening to Beethovens Missa Solemnis and watching football halftime on TV.    ;D

You guys are going to be the death of me. It has been on my wish list for a while and now you made me buy it right away. And I already topped the CD buying budget for this month and February is not even halfway through.

I am certain this will be our buy of the year, Fafner.  It is beyond me how I missed this one.  I mean, it has pretty much all 'the best of' Janacek repertoire, and it's all there in that wee box.  Just the kind of thing I live for.  Everything in wee boxes.    ???    It is a hefty price though, but I reckon all this anticipation for what is a 5 cd set of brilliant will be worth it.

It's the only one I know from him. I read his thread a moment ago, will perhaps try the pieces Luke mentioned there.

Thumbs up! A great work. There's so much by Holst that remains underrated. One-hit wonder? I think not!

Now playing:

Listening to Eventyr. Holten's way with this work has opened it up in a completely new way for me. This was never an 'easy' Delius work due to the fact there's so many 'episodes' to follow in the work. It's complexity reminds me of Elgar's Falstaff, which is a piece I'm still trying to wrap my mind around. Anyway, a big kudos for Holten and the Aahus Symphony Orchestra here. Now, I can go back and listen to the Handley performance of Eventyr with a better insight.

Just listened to ...

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 in E flat major "Romantic" ~ Riccardo Chailly & The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

I liken listening to a Bruckner symphony to a heavy meal of meat, potatoes, lots of gravy, followed by a couple of slices of pie & ice cream. Afterwards you feel like nothing would be better that a few tremendous belches and farts.

The Violin Concerto is an early Sessions work, and it's a beauty.  The violin plays almost continuously, but I did not find at tiring.  This is a good recording of it (Paul Zukovsky is the soloist).

Gorgeous stuff, and a typically beautiful Lyrita recording.
