That Rosenkavalier scene is quite lovely.  I am not familiar with either Anke Vondung or Maki Mori, and they're excellent.  I wonder where the production was taped...

Says in the tags that mentioned November 23 and 25 of 2007 in NHK Hall in Tokyo. Wouldn't I like to have been a fly on the wall on that one. Fabulous Sophie...looks and voice, stunning.

Thanks, I didn't click since it looked like it was all in Japanese!

It's true. I've been traumatised and will never buy another HIP piano recording ever again.

Another victim of those ruthless HIP recordings..... 8)

Harry: I am no big expert, but Zomer's voice sounds just great to me. Not big, and little vibrato. Very attuned to the style of the period

From Andrzej Wajda films, music by Andrzej Korzynski; the main theme and a couple other tracks from Man of Iron are very reminiscent (or prophetic) of Gorecki (3rd symphony) or Silvestrov (Postludium) in their new-agey, aching mood. Much of the rest is surprisingly of its age, i.e. totally dated pseudo-disco stuff. It does have charm and helps set the context for the two 'Man' films, which revolve around the birth of Solidarność. Although parts of the disc almost repelled me at first, I came to listen to it 4 times. I never saw Man of Iron, but Man of Marble was quite a knockout when I saw it at the time. Krystina Janda contributes a throaty, passionate political song.

Following this I'm into some Tadeusz Baird movie music. Both are Olympia issues.

Yup, marvelous music!  :)

Dancing Divertimentian

3rd symphony.

Beautiful rendition of a work that spends much of its time in the slow lane.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Good morning!

I'm starting the day with Act II of Aida. This should wake me up!

One of the criticisms of this rendition is that it's not true to the spirit of Verdi. I'm not familiar enough with Verdi to be affronted by this and am finding listening to this an exciting experience.

Good morning!

I would think so!  ;D
It's often amazing to see what music forum members listen to after they wake up... :o

I must be of a rare delicate mental disposition, not being able to tolerate anything post-Mozart before I had my coffee!  ;D (Which is an hour or so after I've had my breakfast)
