New to the forum.  I am Stuart, a friend of George...

That means trouble...  ;)

Hi Stuart!  Welcome and enjoy yourself here.

Thanks for the welcome.  George and a few of us made the decision to essentially quit the other forum where most members are only into non-classical music and audio gears.  There are just not enough people there who are on our wavelength and some of those "admin" guys are also less than polite ...

Kuhlau

A rather impressive rendition of an old warhorse:

Ah, interesting.  Well, GMG is a pretty congenial place.  Our "admin" (founder Rob Lang) is a great guy...I'm sure you'll find him here and there.

Does this mean you and George are now effectively exiles from the Classical Corner at the Hoffman forums? ???

LUTOSLAWSKI:        Symphony n. 3                / BPO, Lutoslawski

The best version of this extraordinary Symphony. Much more structured than Salonen, with an impressive tension, in special in the 2nd movement, the interpretation of Lutoslawski gives an intense dramatic presence to the work.

My favorite recording too! I think I'll put it on next. :D

Yes, they moved us to a room where we couldn't post images and new blood would not be likely attracted to our thread. So we discussed it and decided to come over here. I wasn't that keen on repeating myself anyway. This is simpler.

I have PM'd the regulars over there and so far 3 or 4 have joined over here.  :)

It may sound strange that a little over a month ago, George convinced you to join us at the Hoffman Forum from time to time ...

Kuhlau

Well, nice to see you chaps here. :)

(And so you know, I scrubbed the Hoffman forums link from my site's 'Blogs & Forums' page. It was too much hassle updating it with each successive thread. ;D)

Good point. Well, things ebb and flow, no?  8)

Yeah, leaving that single thread and coming over here was like leaving my tiny apartment and walking out into the city. Much more room and more people with similar interests.

BTW, the Celi Bruckner 3 I posted earlier is really nice! I am a fan of his Bruckner anyway, but the sound is great and the performance is wonderful!

Now playing the following recording, another CD that arrived with that 60-CD Harnoncourt's Bach Complete Cantatas set this morning from MDT ...

Great fun huh, these discs.!
At least they where for me.

Re:  Goldberg, Johann - Harry, I love those 2 discs; not sure 'how much' more instrumental works he wrote; aware that he has some vocal & keyboard compositions, but uncertain what else is available - he died at such a young age!  Dave

It's been a rough few days, as my wife had surgery on her arm.  But Bach's AoF played by Walter Riemer on fortepiano has lifted my spirits each and every time I've felt down: great music, great performer, great instrument.

Don - hope that all goes well w/ your wife - give her our best wishes!  Dave  :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, Karl.  I don't mean to put you on the spot immediately but I notice that you play clarinet.  What is your opinion of Sabine Meyer as a clarinetist?  I bought this CD recently but my general unfamiliarity with the works and the instrument precluded me from making any judgment.

We're most likely referring to the same recording. :) The '87 date is incorrect, actually. (As per John Berky, at least.)

I also have the Bamberg 8th, but I haven't yet "gotten into" the symphony. And I would be interested in the 5th if it's available for download. :)

They're different recordings. Berky doesn't list tapes that didn't make it to commercial disc. This site gives Jochum's complete discography and the January 1987 9th is indeed his very last recording.
