Never thought about it, Stuart.  Just started listening again this summer after buying a turntable.  I mix cds and vinyl so hard to get a bearing.  I probably listen to one, possibly two pieces each day.  However, my listening of it is increasing a bit as I am purchasing more in the classical genre.  Said I was going to stay away from it and just stick to jazz soundtracks, but that lasted about as long as my New Year's resolutions, whatever they were. :)

As for me, the convenience factor still rules.  It is so easy to just pop a CD into my desktop while I am online.  I still have not taken that speaker that had some accident while playing Bach organ works over the Christmas to the shop.  While it still plays, it makes that scratchy sound whenever the music has strong bass content.  To be sure, I could have taken the laptop to the music room where I can listen to the big rig.  I just do not care much for the online experience via the small screen compared with the 22" screen of the desktop.

One of these days, I hope to spin my thousands of LP's much more frequently.   ;D

That is the 4-CD set?  If so, I have the set too.  I have not played the set in a few years.

Yes, it's a wonderful set. Four cd's worth. I haven't got through all of it yet.

Disc.4. includes Sonata #2, Night Visions, Three Romances & Forest Scenes.

Wilhelm Kempff's playing seems perfectly suited to Schumann's beautiful romantic piano works  :)

I have the 9-CD Beethoven Sonatas set by Kempff and that also is a great set ...

You are way ahead of me.  My set is still in the cellophane after it arrived from Amazon UK ...

Each night, I'm going to listen one disc from this set, in the order they're packaged.

That's the plan anyway.  ::)

Then I move on to the 14-CD EMI Richter box. That's two more weeks.  ;D

I'm lacking "Das Lied"... 1, 5, 7 are just about mandatory, 9 is very good... only 8 is a dud. (But a good dud, at least.)

Since Boulez offers no fillers like Chailly and Gielen, one might as well wait for the box which will be inevitable (if you can shake off the other copies while they are still catching a fair price)... although it might take a year or two for it to appear.

I profess to admiring Boulez' 8th; but I somehow feel we've been through this discussion before...

Re Judd's 1st, I'll keep it in mind. It might just pleasantly surprise me! :D

My answer was "straight." The orchestra isn't moving to Florida but they do have a three week residency in Miami during winter.

Sarge

Ah so the following sentence in the Florida Phil Wikipedia entry:  "Hopes for reorganization were further stunted when the 10 year Miami residency of the Cleveland Orchestra was announced in 2007", doesn't mean they're moving to Florida permanently for 10 years?  It kind of read that way.  Especially if it's having such a major impact it's preventing the resurrection of a local orchestra.

I thought perhaps the entire Cleveland woodwind section was suffering Vitamin D deficiency or something  ;D

With the music, or with the playing? Either way, I don't get how anyone couldn't be utterly bowled over. This is real music, and real music-making. As good as it gets. IMHO of course  :)

FWIW I'm not that hot about Gilel's Brahms either (or Jochum's for that matter). ::)

Well, I am, though that's neither here nor there - but what I'm unsure of is whether the bemusement is with the fuss made over Gilels, or over Brahms!
