Haven't heard that one.  I have been listening to Perahia's recording lately and trying to learn Variation 1 on my piano.  I just skipped the Aria since I know I would murder it...best to take out my rath on a less-favorite one until I get better.  Almost done with it  >:D.  I am imitating Perahia because I like how transparent the various lines are in his recording...contrasted with Gould, who I find more immediately intriguing but lacking in the long run.  The repeats were a turn-off at first, but he adds some cool embellishments and some of the sections are just so good they need to be repeated.

I am hoping to get the Perahia's 5-CD set on Bach keyboard works on the Sony label at some point.  At present, I do not have any recordings by him.

How is Dohnányi's Mahler?

Not to my liking -- rather lean and mean, as opposed to weighty and dramatic.

Makes one curious about what it is.  ;D

I can make out JS BAch and what I think says Trio Sonatas. I don't recognize the label symbol.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Good call!  ;D

It is indeed the JS Bach Trio Sonatas played by the Trio Lezard on Coviello Classics.

ROLAND DE LASSUS:     Sacrae Lectiones ex Propheta Job     / Ensemble Cori Spezzati  (1998)

One of the best works of Lassus youth. He was 28 years old when he composed it. The Vocal Ensemble Cori Spezzati is remarkable of balance, with a beautiful sound.
I heard this work for the first time with a Czech Choir (Madrigalistes of Prague) many years ago. This new version is much, much better.

Alessandro Scarlatti; Dixit Dominus. Concerto Italiano/Alessandrini.

Magnificent. If somebody thinks otherwise 1) let me know and 2) let's get our ears checked.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

This is awesome!

Impression from the clips: Certainly very fine playing. I do not think any organist would be able to articulate all three parts in a more stylish way. But the sound of these modern instruments is anachronistic. However I might be tempted to get it for pure musical reasons.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

It sure is, and sounded better than last time I played it, what with my new DAC and all  ;)

I still have to do something about the other late Mozart symphonies.  I know Mackerras on Telarc is recommended.  I recall you mentioning another modern cycle, but can't remember who it was...Neumann?

Not a cycle, but a ton of them were done by Ward on Naxos, which I think are excellent in sound and performance. There's another Szell Mozart disc out there too, it was issued in the last 5 years or so on Sony. I have one or two of Mackerras's Mozart Symphony CDs and find his Mozart to be very good. I don't like his style for Beethoven, but for Mozart it works well.

Cool, thanks, I'm writing it down this time so I don't have to ask every time I play this Szell disc  :)

;D

The Mozart String Quartets on Naxos are another great sounding/performance bargain.
