Haven't been able to enjoy any serious music for some time, so I wisely took a break so that I could come back refreshed, and it seems to have worked well. Listened to Schoenberg's Pelleas and Melisande (Boulez/Erato); hit the spot.

Been there, done that... and come to a same kind of a conclusion: "easy" listening won't do the trick. My routes back have often been even more daring, though. Even later Schoenberg has been involved.  :)

Overture is splendid... the second movement of the first symphony a little slow going and heavy... but altogether good on the ears.

Richard Egarr's set of Bach's WTC I on Harmonia Mundi.  A few days ago I listened to this set and very much enjoyed Egarr's rubato.  Last night it didn't sound so good - sort of rubato by the numbers.  Maybe I was just too tired.

Sad.   But I've got a new WTC II on piano that's making me very happy and this is the third or fourth go around!  :)  If she has also recorded the WTC I, I will certainly try to get it.

Yes, her set is very rewarding.  As for her WTC I, there isn't any.
