Just finished listening to this:

This opera is way too long. I am usually pretty patient but the entire second act of this opera serves no purpose - a bunch of cardinals and clergymen arguing doesn't make for great drama. There is some great music from Pfitzner but the libretto is ponderous, full of un-interesting monologues.

Agree about the quality, or lack thereof, of the libretto. But the arguing in the second act contain some of the best music as well. Overall, agree that it is hard to go through the whole piece without a break.

Enjoy, then! Unfortunately, I never did! Hoegaarden is not my cup of beer. :)

Indeed... :-\
The recipe of the beer was changed "to appeal to a wider public" when multinational Interbrew took over in 1985.

Result: another good beer brand gone to waste.

At least you have tasted the old one. I only know the new one and dislike it.

Basically the trend is to tone down or even remove all pronounced tastes and to sweeten everything: sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar. Sugar in bread, sugar in drinks, sugar in meat!, sugar in everything. And now everybody is surprised that everything tastes the same and that obesity and diabetes is surging in the Western world. BIG surprise indeed.. ;D

Hi there Robert, Boy you came in time to my aid!
Yes the white Hoegaarden is excellent, but in the olden days was more pronounced.

grant us a little offtopic once in a while! :)

You may be enjoying yourselves but sooner or later other forum members will start to complain. The whole point of making threads that are based around a topic is that you won't have to read about people's drinking habits if you don't want to! Please tell us what you're listening to!
