Now playing CD9 from this set, which includes works by Rameau, Le Roux, Royer and Duphly.  Great harpsichord music ...

I'm in the process of listening to music that I own that I've never given a proper listening.

Excellent idea.  Many of us should be doing the same ...

Took the words right out my mouth.  8)

Mine too and I've just played that disc! Now playing the L Couperin disc from the same set. 20 USD well spent.  ;D

I haven't heard her Mozart in awhile, though like the Debussy, I used to like her Mozart. I am almost afraid now to listen. I am fairly certain that you would like her though, she is technically secure, really clean playing.

Hey Guys - I've had Uchida in the Mozart & Debussy works mentioned for quite a while - kept the discs so must have liked her performances, but I have not listened to them in a while like George, but I must say that Klara Wurtz in the Mozart Sonatas & Bavouzet in the Debussy Piano Works have been more recent and enjoyable acquisitions; maybe I need to do some comparison listening - just so many hours in a day!  :-\ :D

Double Concerto

Chris - I've had that recording for years (my cover art is different) - wonder 'what' more current recommendations have come out lately for this particular combo?  Dave  :)

Hi Dave - yes it's a great recording and the only one I have of the 'Double'.

We're off to hear PINCHAS ZUKERMAN Violin and his wife AMANDA FORSYTH Cello perform it tonight with the NZSO

Should be a great night of Brahms  :)

Boy, that Vivarte offering looks GREAT, and 12 quartets! And w/ the K. bros, too!  :D

I've had an excellent bargain 2-CD set (inserted above, middle), but just includes 6 of these works!   :)

Now Jed Wentz has a 3-CD set on Brilliant @ a great price - any comments from those who may have heard this set; own Wentz in other recordings which I've enjoyed -  :D

The box I bought only has six of them (1-6), but it's still a steal!

Really?  ???   Amazon states 3 CDs of all 12 Quartets - confusing; however, found an excellent appraisal of the Wentz recordings on Brilliant from Fanfare quoted HERE - hard to beat that assessment & the pricing?  Dave  :D

OK - clear now; well, I may add the Wentz 3-CD set on Brilliant to my 'wish list' - really enjoy the 'Paris Quartets', so would be great to have all of them!  Dave  :D

Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 6 'Pathetique;' Hamlet Fantasy Overture (Philh. Cassovia/Wildner) Naxos

Tchaikovsky's 6th is obviously a very emotional, heartfelt & personal work. Even though, as in many cases, he really wears his heart on his sleeve, he gets a very profound picture of the human condition across. The Hamlet Fantasy Overture is an entirely different work, full of high drama. Big cymbal clashes & a drumroll at the end. If you like Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet, you're bound to like this also.

Hovhaness - Cello Concerto; Symphony No. 22 'City of Light' (Starker/Seattle SO/Russell Davies/Hovhaness)

Hovhaness' music draws on non-Western traditions of music. He was one of the first composers to write non-goal oriented music. The music flows and ebbs like the processes of nature. Here you get a great account of the early Cello Concerto (1936) played by Janos Starker, and the composer conducts his Symphony No. 22 (1971). This music, while not plumbing the depths of the human condition, offers something more lyrical and meditative. It's a soothing alternative to some of the more heavier apects of classical music in the C20th.

The complete Telemann edition?  Only "small" because it's only technically one item. ;) ;D :D
