I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Johann Strauss.
"Der Zigeunerbaron".

Soloists: Karl Schmitt-Walter, Willy Schneider, Peter Anders, Sena Jurinac, Marianne Schroder, Goerg Hann, Ilse Holweg, Ingeborg Lasser.
Choir and Kolner Rundfunk-Orchestra, Franz Marszalek.
Brilliant, licensed from Fonoteam.

One of the best Operetta's Strauss has ever written. When Peter Anders sings "Als Flotter Geist" the tone is set, what a marvelous singer is he. Alltogether this is a marvelous performance.
I cannot say in words what befalls me when the notes of this operetta sound through my house, but it makes it a happy home despite all the worries that fall down from heaven.

Emmerich Kalman.
"Die Csardasfurstin"
Operetta in three acts.
Highlights.
Soloists: Erika Koth, Benno Kusche, Philipp Gehly, Franz Fehringer, Hedda Heusser, Willy Hofmann.
Choir and Orchestra of the Kolner Rundfunk, Franz Marszalek.

The lovely voice of Erika Koth is gracing this recording with her bell like voice, which had no equal in her time, or after her. She truly had a unique voice and sweet personality. And she loved white German wines, and had a cellar full with them. So I drink a white Moezel wine, and enjoy this immensely. Kalman's operetta is a gem, and it is well sung and performed. I dream my way in heaven with this music. What some people have with Wagner I have with operetta, so that's said. ;D

Harry - I just received that Fretwork box - off on a short mountain trip today, and will take it along; not ideal, but at least a premier - I've been collecting that group from the beginning!  :D

Vanhal, JB (1739-1813) - String Quartets w/ Kubin Quartet - these really 'hold-up' well to the ones written by his 'string quartet' playing partners, i.e. Haydn & Mozart!   :D

That was fast and furious, making Beethoven sound as the most unbridled Romantic!
Rumor has it that Feinberg played it even faster! I gotta hear that as well...  :)

Franz Lehar.
"Das Land des Lachelns"
Operetta in three acts.
Highlights.
Soloists: Heinz Hoppe, Renate Holm, Ingeborg Hallstein, Peter Alexander.
Grosses Operettenorchester, Franz Marszalek.

Heinz Hoppe is a marvelous tenor, bringing the intro song, "Ich trete ins zimmer, Immer nur lacheln" with enormous conviction. You don't hear that kind of voices no more. The recording is just fine, and especially Renate Holm sings as a little bird. Hallstein is fine too, if she keeps her volume under control.

"Die Lustige Witwe".
Operetta in three acts.
Highlights.
Soloists: Lotte Rysanek, Else Liebesberg, Erika Mechera, Rudolf Christ, Kurt Equiluz.
Orchestra der Wiener Volksoper, Franz Bauer Theussl.

Excellent performance with little weaknesses, all is well sung, with the right spirit, and the music is well rounded of, by this fine Orchestra.
