There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Four complete spins today.  Possibly the Mahler breakthrough I have been hoping for.

Shostakovich: Symphonies Nos. 1-3 - Barshai/WDRSO

Conor71 - nice to see a new member posting on a great box set!  The only 'complete' Shosty symphony collection that I own @ the moment (along w/ a bunch of other separate ones) - hope that you enjoy!   :D

Thanks SonicMan  :) - Like yourself this is the only set I own, though I am hoping to add a second set soon as I have been enjoying this one so much lately!  8)

I hope so!

Bogey's not the only one playing the same CD four times. I'm currently listening to this album for the fourth time in a row...

BEETHOVEN | Symphony No 3
Swedish Chamber Orchestra Orebro
Thomas Dausgaard

A performance that meets or exceeds all of the things I hope for in an "Eroica." If you want a frame of reference, it's an awful like the Paavo Jarvi recording made at about the same time, except with, if anything, an even greater sense of the electricity of something entirely new.

Nice, but you already knew that. :)

Very beautiful indeed, Bill. :)

For starting this day I might as well join the recent Jacques Champion de Chambonnières party!

I have played this set now several times in a short time, and apart from the rather theatrical introduction with a voice that scared the hell out of me, this is a most excellent set.
I bought this Que, after you wrote such a glowing review about it, so you see I read your comments very thoroughly.

And this CD I would without fear also recommend to everyone that loves music from that period. I cannot imagine a better interpretation as this one.

Mozart Violin Concerti and Violin Sonatas (Grumiaux, Haskil)

This set served as our anniversary music.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

A wonderful cd, that has been in my player on a regular basis, the last couple of days, and I've come to appreciate it very much.

Glad you like it, Bill. That is one helluva performance. I hope it does lead to a general Mahler breakthrough but if not, well, you'll always have M9  :)

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

WOW Bill!  Four?  You are officially a Mahlerite.  ;D

Muffat - Concerti Grossi, Nos. 7-12
Musica Aeterna Bratislava (on original instruments)
Peter Zajíček (conductor)
Naxos

Fine performances and very well captured sound. The first six concerti are available by the same ensemble (6 violins - 2 violas - cello - double bass - theorbo - harpsichord - bassoon).
