Quote from: karlhenning on June 25, 2007, 10:21:37 AMI haven't heard that 'un, beclemund; how is it?

It is the first 3rd I owned and I enjoy it a great deal (I only own Hogwood's beyond this one). It seems like a very straight forward reading, marvelously played.

Nor do I remember finding anything to dislike in them . . . .

I find them simply boring. The slow tempo, the overdone "silent parts"... not my cup of tea.

Sidoze and marvinbrown, I have noted Pollini and Arrau as recommendations. Thanks!

Now listening to : Strauss - Also sprach Zarathustra, by "mystery orchestra bonus 3"  ;D

You should try his Gesamtkuntswerks, they are even better  ;)

Getting close. I'm building up my Wagnarian muscle :)

God aften!

Schubert: Fantasia in f minor D 940. Elena & Emil Gilels.

Just terrific. The rest of the disk has Mozart's K. 365 and 595. Generous fillers those!
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Extremely beautiful & moving.

Excellent Romantic era piano concertos :)

Franck: Symphony in d minor and Le Chasseur maudit. Philadelphia Orchestra, Muti. Some mushiness in the strings in the introductio to I, otherwise committed and highly proficient playing (superbly sonorous horns and low brass). Good recording, but lacking front to back depth. Transparency is also not optimal, but this may have to do with the composer.

BachQ

Ax has a love affair with Brahms op. 15 and, to a large extent, it shows .........

Mozart: K. 136-138. Hagen Quartett.

Nice to have these pieces played by a string quartet, and what a band they are the Hagens.

God morgen!

Franz Krommer.

Quartet for Bassoon and String Trio, opus 46,1 in B flat major.
-----------------------------------opus 46,2 in E flat major.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Sonata for Bassoon and Violoncello in B flat major, KV 292.

Eckart Hubner, Bassoon.
Johannes Luthy, Viola.
Steuart Eaton, Viola.
Reinhard Latzko, Violoncello.

What a amazing virtuoso writer Krommer is. These compositions of him makes you sit upright without fail, and glamours for your attention in a grand style. Needs quite a artist to perform that well, and they do on this recording. Mozart is good too, but pals a little in the dazzling light of Krommer. I would say this is quite a addition to anyones collection. Grab it while you can, its on its way to OOP.

Carl Friedrich Abel.

Flute Concerti.

Opus 6, No. 1,2,3,5.

Karl Kaiser, Transverse Flute.
La Stagione Frankfurt/Michael Schneider.

Again a absolute winner on CPO, and one that is going OOP very soon. Well recorded and performed, the Flute player must have extra mention here, for the miracles he performs on this beautiful sounding Transverse flute is pure magic. The music itself is very rewarding and stands well against the works of his fellow composers. Inventive, melodious and very invigorating. Alert playing from everyone involved.

Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf.

String Quartets.

No. 1,3,4,5.

Franz Schubert Quartet.

Now, I am aware that there is a certain jolliness on this board regarding Dittersdorf, and he was much teased, to the chagrin of many a poster, amongst I am one. So this disc here proves that Dittersdorf is a composer to reckon with, more as we all think. Listening to these SQ makes me at least aware of the fact that he was a good craftsman, and that his compositions can hold its ground easily with the musical world around him. The very fine interplay between the musicians, and the satisfying melodic invention is giving a boost to the music. Let say besides Haydn he makes a good case for him self. Just listen to the second movement of SQ 3 in G major, "Menuetto",  its a beautiful piece of music. Discard him like a second rate composer is unwise to say, in my estimate he ranks high.
The FSQ is performing these works to perfection, and the recordings done by MDG are exemplary.

He is a first-rate second-rate composer. :)

O, dear, see, the teasing begins already! ;D
Don't make me cry! :'(
Seriously, listen to these SQ, and your opinion will change, or I eat my hat! :)
