#56961
A fine disc, with a handful recorder compositions by mainly (or are they all?) `unknown' composers - a feast of discovery!

Now playing: Arnold Cooke, Divertimento for recorder and strings (1959)

"THE GUITAR IN SPAIN"            / Julian Bream

A nice panorama, from Mudarra to Turina. It includes some famous and remarkable works, such as Mudarra's Fantasia X, Sanz "Canarios", Sor "Variations on a theme by Mozart", Turina's "Fandanguillo" and Falla's "Homenaje pour le tombeau de Debussy".

Julian Bream uses guitars from the Renaissance, Baroque and modern, and also a vilhuela.

Sound is great, playing so far (just a few tracks into it) very competent; perhaps a bit on the steady side.

One of the two first discs that got me hooked on classical music!
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

This 20+ year old recording is still one of the best.  It has been in my collection since the late 80's.

Mahler 4 - Bertini/CRSO

Had this set on my hard drive for a while, but eager to hear this after I heard that the delightful Popp is the soloist. Fingers crossed.
