Nowowiesky
Concertos for Solo Organ
MDG

Fine Organ Concertos for solo organ op.56, No.1 & 2

Germanic, old fashioned..., even though the booklet
attests "Polish characteristics... and music that sometimes
goes to the limits of tonality, harmonic tensions frequently
remaining unresolved; many movements ending  with dis-
sonant or bitonal sounds.

Well, I hear a lot of things... but none of that.

But then I admit I have no idea how I could distinguish
Organ Symphonies (for solo organ) from Organ Concertos
(for solo organ). Apparently N. just didn't want to write
(i.e. call) more than nine (Organ) Symphonies.

Nowowiesjski studied with Bruch & Dvorak.

Two Hummel sonatas on a Brodmann fortepiano from 1814. Wonderful! Gurn, you'll love this!

Revisited Lawrence Foster's superb recording of Enescu's 3rd and was reminded anew of how fine the work is.  Good stuff.

Own & enjoy this collection - for those interested, check out the Enescu THREAD - excellent music well performed!  :D

When you say this/hyped do you mean the work or that performance of this work?

I LOVE that symphony so much that I want to take it behind Middle School and get it pregnant.   ;D

*takes a flower vase and smashes it over George's head... then runs over and impregnates Gorecki's 3rd Symphony.

There, all better.  8)

I sent MusicWeb 23 reviews in 2009 (pretty good for starting employ mid-June) and have just submitted 2 more tonight (including the Bernstein Mass, a review which took 132 days to write). Now I'm going to start a review of this sensational CD, Jordi Savall's "ISTANBUL," but not for MusicWeb - for my university newspaper. About time I flaunted my Turkishness for all campus to see! Will have to mention that my mom started singing along to a couple of these pieces.  ;D

Yes it is a fabulous  production, and I am happy when I first posted it, it was picked up by quite a few members.
