VIVALDI:        Nisi Dominus              / Teresa Berganza, ECO, Ros-Marbá

The Nisi Dominus is one of Vivaldi's most beautiful vocal works, dramatic and contrasted.

A remarkable CD, with the beauty of Berganza's voice, her phrasing, with sublime moments such as the "Cum Dederit".
I wish there were more voices like that singing this repertory.

Some wonderful Down Under music by Peter Sculthorpe from a recent R3 program: Kakadu and Mangrove. I very much enjoy his work but like many composers I have not listened to any for quite a while. Thanks once more BBC R3.

Although this is not the performances I listened to the notes about the composer and the works are enlightening.
I am not in the entertainment business. Harrison Birtwistle 2010

Quote from: CoreyHe said he enjoyed all of them but had the most to say about the Feldman, possibly because he had him pegged as a sort of uncompromising modernist

It's a pretty accurate description of earlier Feldman, I think.

Well, and if what you're doing is musically right, where is the need to compromise? . . .

One of my favorite interpretations of these works.

Marais, Marin (1656-1728) - Pieces en Trio w/ Musica Pacifica - excellent 2-CD bargain on Virgin Veritas!

Enjoying even more the second time around - must look for more Marais & Musica Pacifica, an outstanding group for this 'period' music -  :)

Good in many respects.  The winds are a little 'whiny' in timbre, which as a clarinetist I find excessively annoying at times.

Leo SOWERBY piano works played by Gail Quillman
Sonata (1948)  Passacaglia (1942)    Suite  (1949)
Sowerby is best known for his organ works, but he did compose five symphonies, these piano pieces, and some jazz pieces for the Paul Whiteman Orchestra.  The idiom here is 20th century tonal with jazz flavouring, with clear classical structures.

BUSONI  disc 2 from the Capriccio set   orchestral music
Lustspielovertüre op.38      Symphonic Suite  op.25     Berceuse Elégiaque op.42 Song of the Spirits: Indian Diary II op.47

Listener, could you tell me some impression of the Busoni set, looks like a great bargain.
