Les Italiens a la Cour de France.
CD 15.
Antonio Sacchini. "Edipe a Colone".
Niccolo Piccinni, "Didon".
Roberta Invernizzi, Soprano.
Cappella della Pieta de Turchini, Antonio Florio.

Thoroughly entertaining, well sung and played. A somewhat noisy live recording, but that doesn't distract from the sheer fun of this recording. Invernizzi moments are almost all wonderful, but sometimes she is a little of the mark.

Beguiling in every aspect. Good morning, everyone!  8)

Good morning Tasos, that one looks really nice.

Violin Concerto No. 23 in G major

Alexander Borodin.
Complete Chamber Music.
CD III.

Sextet in D minor.
Trio in G minor.
Trio in G.
Piano Trio in D.

Moscow Trio, and some other people.

I can only stress again, that this inexpensive set is worth your consideration. Borodin is a really good composer, who wrote some excellent chamber works.
This performance is a apt salute to him.

Hey, Harry! Got it for a pittance from Abeille, too. I already have volume 3, which is just as good - if not more so. As an added bonus, both recordings are in exemplary SACD sonics.

:o I totally overlooked that when going through the Hyperion section. Well the sale is over now. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

But then again, the first meticulously packed parcel from Abeille arrived, with two boxes: Langgaard and Prokovief. ;D

Harry

Serge Prokofiev.
Complete Symphonies.
Symphony No. 1, "Classical"

Well recorded, but a bit squarely performed, not playful enough, but then I did never hear a better performance of this symphony than under Neville Marinner on a old Decca recording, in terms of tempi, and interpretation. And there is a tad of shrillness in the tutti's. But then I did not buy this set for the first Symphony. :)

It's V-Composer Violin Concerto Day for Andrei! ; )

Interesting how you chose a M composer with a V in his name...
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

When bought years ago, I found this cd to be a fundgrube, and I dipped into it, just yet, and still find it to be a excellent fundgrube! ;D

And if we talk about excellent performances, this one should be in everyones home. Its a pleaser, if there ever was one, and budget priced. State of the art recording too.

Well, technically a Fundgrube is not a "find", it's the place you find "finds". It's a treasure trove, really.
