Here's another one that I haven't listened to for ages (and what fabulous music this is):

Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Harry

#63981
Percy Grainger.
Volume 15. Orchestral Work, Volume III.
BBC Philharmonic, Richard Hickox.

Passacaglia on an English Folktune "Green
Bushes" (Version 1905 / 6);Hill-Song Nr. 2;
The Merry King;Eastern Intermezzo;Colonial
Song (Version 1919);Spoon River;Lord Maxwell's
Goodnight; The Power of Rome and the Christian
Heart; The Immovable Do;Irish Tune from County
Derry "County Derry Air";Ye Banks & Braes
O'Bonnie Doon;English Dance Nr. 1

A assembly of various pieces often world premieres in their versions. Not much listening power here. The pieces are nice enough but ultimately a tad boring. They have no beginning middle or end, they just drift, drifting musical ideas that have no substance. Background music. If you think Delius is without substance try Grainger in these works. Well recorded and performed.

Starting with the Symphonies is starting with the first. Many big boned conductors don't really know how to handle this work. Its called classical symphony for a reason. Jarvi lets you hear all the details, a walk through all the desks, maximum coherence, thats good. It made more sense to me as say Kitajenko's take, especially in the dynamics which Jarvi hits spot on, which is not always the case with Kitajenko. That said Jarvi's tempo suck, and that is where most conductors fail miserably. The recording is excellent even with the reverb, that is adding to the dept. I look forward to the rest of the symphonies.

If you do it that way, you need to

1. Choose "Additional Options" after clicking "Reply."
2. Click "Browse" and choose the file to upload.

I find this way more work, so suggest trying the way I indicated above.
