I wish they'd put out this new Wind Quintet with a different coupling: I have the original Koch disc on which the other two works appeared.

Likewise, viz. the duplicates!  But I figured a 40-minute Schoenberg piece which is new to my ears, was worth the $6 while Naxos is on sale at Arkivmusic.

Very much enjoying this initial listen . . . there is a welcome undercurrent of buoyant playfulness in this performance, which seems to me to serve the score very well.

One of my favourite Hyperion acquisitions this year. Highly melodious, and fun listening.
I agree. The title of the disc is deceiving, although when you see the composers, it's an interesting group.

Now listening to this one (got this one a year ago I think and thoroughly exhilerating):

Would love to hear this in the concert hall.  Very skillfully crafted and wonderfully played.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

And with thanks to Teresa for sparking the discussion which served to rekindle general interest in this great, great composer:

Schoenberg
Wind Quintet, Opus 26 (1924)

New York Woodwind Quintet

Schoenberg – Chamber Symphony № 2 / Die Glückliche Hand / Wind Quintet

Edward, duplication or not, I believe this is a recording of the Quintet you will wish to hear.  An entirely wonderful piece!  On the basis of this hearing . . . to consider that historically it has been regarded as an embarrassment to the composer, astonishes me.

Yes, she's done so much good for the composer she hates. I thank her too  8)

I have collected all CPO recordings, his Symphonies and SQ, and what else not. He is a great composer, and unjustly neglected.
