Just got the TELARC recording of the Choros. Will take some time this weekend to give it a listen.

The BIS set contains all of the Choros and is the only set to include them all together. You should definitely opt for the BIS set at some point. You'll love it.

Now:

Outstanding performance. Petrenko knows his Shostakovich. I look forward to hearing more from him.

Shostakovich Symphony #6 B minor, Sanderling, Berlin SO

Sarge

I really want to get this box set at some point as I generally enjoy Sanderling's conducting.

There's also an excellent ASV disc of Choros 1-7.

WALDTEUFEL Waltzes:  España, Très jolie, Esudiantina, Les Sirènes, Les Patineurs, Dolorès, Pluie de diamants
Vienna Volksoper Orchestra       Franz Bauer-Theussl, cond.
Familiar, relaxing, and enjoyable.
RACHMANINOFF Vespers  (All-Night Vigil) op. 37
BBC Singers,  David Hill cond.
The 5/8 section in no.9 uses a melody familiar from the Symphonic Dances (no.3) and keeps coming back to haunt me at odd moments.

I got the Rachmaninoff Vespers by the BBC Singers as a freebie from my subscription to the BBC Music magazine a number of years ago ...

Now playing CD2 from this set for a first listen ...

I find Leaper's performances incredibly lackluster. The Neschling performances clearly are the ones to own and any VL fan will tell somebody this.

I must admit, I was very tempted to dedicate the performance to you...  ;D

You have not accepted the principal that opinions that differ from MI's are just plain wrong?   ;D

Calm down. Don't be so sensitive. Everybody knows the BIS set is one of the best things to come along for VL fans in years.

I don't think this is fair. I was just being honest in saying that Leaper didn't do it for me and that I've spoken with many other VL fans that have said the BIS set is essential listening, which I happen to agree with. I don't know Daverz experience with VL's music, but I think he needs to get a grip and chill out.

BACH, J.S.: Violin and Fortepiano Arrangements
(Bach in romantischer Manier)

Many of us are fans of Christine Schornsheim in different repertoires, but this Hirasaki Mayumi is really a hell of a violinist!

I suppose the main attraction here is Christine Schornsheim playing fortepiano. :)
Interesting to know what kind of period instrument Mayumi uses.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

Good afternoon indeed. A great recording.
not something I can listen to often, but one of my favorite peces of music.

Mahler: Symphony No. 5 (Chailly/Concertgebouw) - Great in every way.  Plus, love the cover art of the original issues in this series.
