Have it. Like it. Am not necessarily crazy about it... and mine has a different cover. Yours looks photoshopped.

It's the same cover, but photoshopped; the names seemed more easily readable.

Intriguing adverb... I love every one of their recordings; probably the only exception is this one:

So you re-aligned the font, re-wrote everything in ROTIS semi-sans, and changed the title? That seems like a lot of effort for our benefit.  ;)

Are you crazy, Jens?!  ;D

I never do that work; I simply use Google. I write, for instance, "Aus der Tieffen", "Ricercar" and then press "Imágenes" (Images) and... voilá8)

Now this treasure:

A formidable lutheran mass, a superb cantata, three excellent pieces for organ... Just perfect and moving:)

Liking it more each time I hear it.

One of my preferred discs of CPE Bach:

Les Amis de Philippe:

Manfredo Zimmermann, flute
Manfredo Kraemer, violin
Monica Schwamberger, violoncello
Ludger Rémy, harpsichord

Stylish, dramatic or tender when is required; it's difficult to imagine better renditions than these.

These are true friends!  ;D

Thanks for the recommendation - always on the look out for great CPE stuff! :)

After dinner Mrs. Rock was suddenly in a Christmas mood. The entire house  is filled with Bach:

Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

I'm not a huge fan of Bax. I find his music to be a bit like a watered-down version of Debussy's La Mer. Has anyone else around here had the same experience with his music? I wouldn't dream of saying this on the Bax thread, it's a bit too much a negative (& possibly controversial?) opinion to have around here...

No, I don't feel this way about Bax at all.  Which Bax works are we talking about?  I find Bax very individual.  There are obvious influences, e.g. Sibelius, but his music doesn't really sound like anyone else.

Higdon or Tchaikovsky?
Oh, duh...the recording.  This may become my favorite Tchaikovsky VC recording.  The Higdon piece is okay, but it strikes me as too lightweight to enter the repertoire and doesn't stand along, say, Rautavaara's or Adams's or Glass's, among recent VC's I'm familiar with.

lp's  PROKOFIEV   Symphony no.3 (after The Flaming Angel)
Scythian Suite    (aka. Ala and Lolly)
Boston Symphony     Leinsdorf   cond.
Getting some familiarity with The Flaming Angel on DVD helps make sense of the Symphony  There are actually melodies in some of the tougher parts.
The Organ in France at the time of Louis XIV
misc. pieces by Nicolas GIGAULT, d'ANGLEBERT and Jules JULLIEN
André Isoir      organ at Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris
a somewhat dramatic contrast, but better than hearing Lloyd-Webber again,
"Keep your hand on the throttle and your eye on the rail as you walk through life's pathway."

I think this is one of the few times you've posted an Lp that I have! 8) Love seeing the covers, you must have a wonderful collection.

I know Bulldog hates people who change the names of the threads, but this is a special occasion.

It's excellent to see you online, Don!  :) :)

And it's great to be back.  My surgery went very well although last night was a tough one.  As I write, my lymph nodes are being examined in a lab.  Fortunately, they were removed from my right underarm, and I'm a lefty.  The pain pills I am taking make me a happy man, so you won't read any surly comments from me for a couple of days.

I won't know of a prognosis until I hear back from the medical experts.  On 23 December, I get all stitches removed.  Life is grand!!

Bach is ruling the roost!  Well at least in my and Sarge's homes, that should definitely make Bulldog happy  :D!

Sorry to hear of your condition Bulldog but I am pleased that your surgery went well! I wish you a quick and speedy recovery.
