Hah! Even in Turkey you're still not that far from Romania...  :D

Yes I realized that just after I wrote it. ;D

I am off to Georgia myself with some mystifying Kanchelli.
I keep rattling my sensibilities with composers like this.  Sometimes I can't make head nor tail of it, but still it sends messages to me.

Listening to Danses sacree et profane for chromatic harp and string orchestra. My goodness what great piece of music. I had heard it years ago, but it didn't make much of an impression that time around, but, now, I have a completely new appreciation for it. Anyone else familiar with this work?

Yes, it is a great piece, MI.  One of the first works 'outside of Beethoven' that I fell in love with when I got into classical music.

Brahms: String Sextets, Piano Concerto No. 1

I just cant get enough of the Sextets at the moment - absolutely gorgeous! 0:).

Conor, the sextets are definitely some of my favorite Brahms' chamber works.

Travelling to Georgia, with one of the most beautiful discs I heard so far from this region. This is some pretty spectacular singing. Well recorded by a Dutch company.

I will be revisiting this work again soon. :) Debussy's output is full of these little gems.

From Georgia I travel now to India. Kartik Seshadri was one of the best pupils Ravi Shankar ever had, and you can hear that clearly.

Oher musicains are: Arup Chatterjee, Tabla, Anne Seshadri, Treble Tanpura, Terry Longshore, Bass Tanpura.

Raga Anandi Kalyan.
1) Alap, jor and Jhala.
2) Gat in Jhaptala.

Raga Basant Mukhari.
3) Aochar and gat in Teentala.

This is most excellent. I really have a lot of Indian music from all regions, but the quality of sitar playing on this disc is amazing.

An outstanding recording in every way. This was my first exposure to the full work of Le martyre de Saint Sebastien. Before this, I was only familiar with the orchestral arrangement of this work by Andre Caplet.

John & Karl ready for today's listening session.

Obviously Wagner's not on tap, else they'd be outfitted like Andy, below:

Now playing, Stravinsky first:

Enjoying a second run-through of Murray Perahia's new Brahms recordings.  It's one of his best recordings in many moons.  Tonally beautiful, nicely refined, with some oomph in places.  It's much stronger and better than I assumed it would be.  Sound ain't too shabby either.  A most pleasant surprise; it exceeded every expectation.
