Antheil, Symphony No. 5 "Joyous"

[asin]B000051Y0Z[/asin]

Antheil knows his Prokofiev very well, but he does add an American flavor, and this is a very entertaining and well written work.

All this revenge only hurts you.  Can't you forgive and listen to a bit of Mozart?

karlhenning

No hurt taken here — nor anywhere, I hope! Really grooving, here.

For the seventh time in the past three days...

I will know have myself committed.

Ha! MI I thought you never relisten to recordings. :D

A sign of my total sickness: I've owned this CD for two months now, and just haven't been bothered to rip it - I then run into an illicit dl and think "wow finally I can hear this" ::)

I was stupid to wait, the music is beautiful and the recording standards very high. A record label that really deserves supporting :)

I like the one cpo disc issued with the violin sonatas very much as well.

There's a Toccata offering on mdt runnning out in a few hours. I just ordered the CD with the complete Alkan music for piano duo, very much liked in the latest IRR.

Oh no, I re-listen to plenty of recordings. I just have to find which ones I want to hear again and this can be difficult. ;) :)

Mozart? That banality-monger?

Your view is corrupt

I may have to check that one out - future duplication be damned. The slightly scary Weinberg of the symphonies just isnt't present in this gorgeous music.

Handel: Water Music, Music For The Royal Fireworks

Good morning :) - first Classical Listen of the day. Enjoyed listening to The Messiah yesterday so thought I'd give my other Handel Disc a spin!. Handel is a composer I would love to explore more of some day but for the moment I have plenty of music - Classcial and Non-Classical to be listening to!  :-[

Hmm, think I find No.0 as interesting as the first...

I think so too (actually, I think it's more interesting). And it's in D minor. Of course it's good--it's in D minor! (Does anyone else miss D minor's contributions? Ever since he decided the end of the civilization was nigh, and retreated to the peak oil thread, it just hasn't been the same here.)

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Surely he is in a bunker somewhere surrounded by tinned food and playing Brahms's PCs all day.

Conor, the Messiah by far my favorite Handel work... but those are some good works too.  I also like Alexander's Feast.

Yup I miss D, one of my all time favorite posters here.

Listening to Symphony No. 10. Excellent work and performance.

Since everybody is playing Schnittke I'm giving him a chance with this:

I have it because I liked the piano duo on the radio, but I have the impression this one wont make me Schnittkeen.
