Wilhelm Peterson-Berger.

Symphony No. 2. ( Sunnanfard)

Romance in D minor for Violin and Orchestra.

Orientalisk dans.

Forspel till, "Sveagaldrar"

Ulf Wallin, Violin.
Norrkoping SO/Michail Jurowski

Music is great solace, much more as people sometimes are. That said this Symphony fills me with awe, and respect for the orchestral skills of Peterson-Berger. Thickly scored, yet when performed wonderfully detailed, and with a excellent driving force from the Norrkoping SO, this is indeed quite marvelous. The fantasy PB used when scoring this symphony must have been dazzling, and hearing the magnificent ideas tumble over each other, it is a constant delight whichever way you hear, all corners of my listening room are filled with this glorious music.
The Romance is a balm to the ear, evicting all possible nuisances around you. And the evocative fantasy marches in with the Orientalisk Dans, to be closed by the little gem "Sveagaldrar".
The recording from 1998 is very good, but sometimes in the crescendi it has the tendency to pipe a little, not much though, but still. Brass sounds fantastic, as does the orchestra under Jurowski.

Horse manure and you know it. It started with you saying something utterly stupid, yet arrogant, followed by self-aggrandisment backed by some mysterious 'your circles', he called you on it and you started the usual passive-aggressive slime outpour.

If you have a argument with me, than kindly tell me in PM's!
Thank you, for your kind words Drasko, you honour me with it.

Don't keep personal correspondence with thick skinned slugs. Whatever had to say I already did, publicly.

Don't even bother pulling that on me, it doesn't work.

I have no idea why so much human warmth goes out to Choo-Choo, Nigel or whatever his name might be.  Harry expressed his opinion about Dohnanyi's conducting, and Choo-Choo went ballistic.  He even stated that Harry immersed himself in "musical sleaze", a statement more unreasonable than anything Harry said about Dohnanyi.  As far as I'm concerned, Choo-Choo was the main character spouting insulting and bitchy comments.

So the man has decided to leave the board?  That's fine.  If Harry or any other member leaves, that's also fine - individual choices made voluntarily.  However, I do feel that Harry provides a service to many board members, identifying tons of recordings from obscure composers.  Although even I can get a little bored with Harry's praise of the obscure, I do try to keep in mind that some members do not regularly read the record review mags.

Am I a heartless bastard?  I don't think so, but many folks do see me as very cold.  Just ask the former wives who divorced me (joke).

And Don will have the last word here, please.  I see nothing in Harry's correspondence to indicate he has done anything more egregious than listen to a ton of CDs, and express his opinions about them.  No one is required to read his posts (or anyone else's).

Please return to "What are you listening to?" and refrain from personal attacks.   $:)  Thank you.

OK  ;D

I am really liking this CD. Casella's music reminds me of Busoni a little bit; with his taking Baroque forms and modernizing them.

Don

An Accord CD of Haydn/Mozart solo piano music played by Claire-Marie Le Guay and recorded in 2004.  Her playing highlights the elegance and poetry of the music, but drama and the rhetorical element are sorely lacking.  This disc was vol. 1, and I believe that vol. 2 has just been released.  Don't think I'll buy it; I also wouldn't want to request it from MusicWeb International.

How is that 5th, Karl?

Very very good.  Every time I listen to it, while I am listening to it I feel it is the best performance of the Fifth I've ever heard.

The Sixth is good & moody, too!
