Fascinating, I never knew that! :o

Wonderful music, beautifully played and recorded:

Mozart

God help me, I've strayed to far from the light! It's been over 2 weeks without listening to a Mozart piano concerto! I choose num 21 with Gardiner, and I think I'll listen to 17 also.

Not my normal rep, but on this blustery cold Cleveland evening, this feels kind of just right:

Kullervo

I have been listening to this for the past few days:

I let a friend of mine borrow this nearly a year ago, and only now did I get it back. It is extremely refreshing to hear Schoenberg now with "new ears".

Bridge's sonata is a sprawling, opalescent work easily on the level of any of Scriabin's late piano pieces. The rest of the disc is filled out with lesser (but still worthy) pieces.

In preparation for Rozhdestvensky/Oslo PO's performance of the Manfred symphony Friday this week I have listened to a couple of recordings. First Jurowski/LPO and then Markevitch/LSO. I think both of these performances are very good, but the edge goes to Markevitch for being a bit more tight, focused and dramatic.
