Is it me or is the violin balanced rather forward here?  :-\

George,

Just spot-checked my Philips Spring and for the most part balances are even, though I do detect stretches where the violin dominates.

But by and large the balance is even enough to keep me happy.

'Tis another one of those subjective things, however. Your ears and mine may have a whole different set of preferences!

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Beethoven ~ Symp #3 Karajan/BP

Starting the day with Mozart Piano Concerto No. 27 by Gilels/Bohm/VPO and the Concerto for two pianos where Elena Gilels joins in. I just love these performances and these concertos - it's so beautiful!

Then I moved on to Holst "Planets" performed by Dutoit/Orchestre symphonique de Montreal. It's in fact the first time I listen to this piece :o, and I must say it did not give me too much (so I won't revisit it in the very near future).

Le Sacre du printemps. I hadn't listened to it in a couple of years, but I caught that on the radio: Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Wow ! :o

Liszt: 6 Hungarian Rhapsodies, Hermann Scherchen and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Westminster, 1953 mono - not to be confused with the later Vienna State Opera stereo version). Splendid and easily the most brilliant I've heard. Makes Karajan's take on 2 and 5 sound drowned in heavy cream and mild paprika.
